HEALTH EFFECTS - ACUTE
Swallowed:
Will cause damage to the mucous membranes. Moderately toxic.
Eyes:
Liquid will cause burns. High concentrations of vapours will cause
irritation.
Skin:
Skin contact can cause burns. Repeated or prolonged skin contact may
lead to irritation. Repeated or prolonged skin contact may lead to
dermatitic effects Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause skin
sensitisation.
Inhaled:
High concentrations of vapour can cause severe irritation of the
respiratory tract. Respiratory sensitiser.
HEALTH EFFECTS - CHRONIC
Knowledge is based on that of the constituents. Repeated or prolonged
skin contact can cause chronic dermatitis. Repeated or prolonged
exposure may cause asthma and skin sensitisation or other allergic
responses.
Swallowed:
IMMEDIATE TREATMENT IS ESSENTIAL. INDUCE VOMITING: Induce vomiting by
giving victim a glass of warm salty water (1 tablespoon of salt) and
repeat until vomit liquid is clear. Alternatively, induce vomiting by
using Ipecac Syrup (APF) or similar emetic OR by depressing back of
tongue with finger.
If vomiting is not readily induced, use gastric lavage with milk and
water. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL. GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
Eyes:
Immediately irrigate with copious quantities of water for at least 15
minutes. Eyelids to be held open. GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
Skin:
Immediately deluge skin with plenty of water while removing contaminated
clothing and shoes. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION. Wash clothing before re-use.
Discard contaminated shoes and leather articles.
Inhaled:
Remove the victim to fresh air. Allow patient to assume most comfortable
position and keep warm. Recovery should be rapid after removal from
exposure. Keep at rest until fully recovered. Seek medical advice if
effects persist.
FIRST AID FACILITIES
Ensure that safety shower and eye wash bath are readily available.
ADVICE TO DOCTOR
Treat symptomatically.
TOXICITY DATA
Oral LD50 (rat) of phenol: 414 mg/kg
EXPOSURE STANDARDS
No data is available for the compounded material. The following data
relates to the ingredients of the Crack Injection Epoxy AH Hardener.
Phenol :TLV-TWA : 1 ppm, 4 mg/m3. "Skin"
[NOHSC:1003(1995)].
A 'skin' notation indicates that this substance will also be readily
absorbed through the skin, which may be by airborne material or direct
contact. The TLV is obviously invalidated if such contact should occur.
ENGINEERING CONTROLS
Use in an adequately ventilated area. General factory ventilation is
normally sufficient. Local exhaust ventilation will be required in
confined areas or where natural ventilation is not sufficient to
maintain concentrations below exposure limits. In poorly ventilated or
confined areas the use of a respirator may be required.
PERSONAL PROTECTION
Wearing of the following personal protective equipment is
recommended:
-
Overalls or similar protective apparel;
-
Safety glasses, goggles or face shield as
appropriate;
-
PVC, neoprene or nitrile rubber gloves.
Wash contaminated clothing and protective equipment before
storing/re-using. Always wash hands before smoking, eating, drinking or
using the toilet. Avoid repeated and prolonged skin contact. Ensure that
safety shower and eye wash bath area readily accessible.
FLAMMABILITY
Will burn if involved in a fire but not considered to be a
significant fire risk.
ENVIRONMENT
Avoid contaminating waterways.
OTHER PRECAUTIONS
Polymerisation
with considerable heat build up will occur if masses >0.5kg are mixed
with epoxy resins in uncontrolled conditions. Ensure that people
handling this product are not allergic (sensitive) to epoxy curing
agents, amines or epoxy resins.
STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
Store in a cool place and out of direct sunlight. Do not store in
conditions of excessive heat or cold. Keep container closed tightly when
not in use.
SPILLS AND DISPOSAL
Wear appropriate protective equipment when cleaning up spillage's.
Contain spillage using absorbent (soil or sand, sawdust, vermiculite,
inert material). Prevent any contamination of drains or waterways.
Scrape up and seal in properly labelled drums for disposal. Remove
residue from contaminated areas with specific clean-up solution or use
water and detergent. Observe local regulations when disposing of waste
material.
FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD
No unusual fire or explosion hazards.
In case of fire in the surroundings: all extinguishing agents
allowed.
Fire fighters to wear self-contained breathing apparatus if risk of
exposure to vapour or products of combustion.
Hazardous decomposition products of combustion: carbon dioxide,
carbon monoxide, soot and smoke, oxidative products of polymeric
materials.
Reactivity Data:
Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents, mineral acids and epoxy
resins under uncontrolled conditions.
OTHER
SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
Avoid breathing vapour if product is heated.
